Spelling
All year level have spelling groups every week targetted to each child's next learning goal. Students will learn spelling rules through a Gradual Release of Responsibility process before moving onto independent activities to reinforce learning and then transferring these learned skills into the context of curriculum and everyday life.
We use the program Words Their Way at Cranbrook with continual monitoring and fluidity of groupings to ensure students are progressing to the next stage as soon as success is achieved.
LEM Phonics
All our staff are trained in LEM Phonics and have been using this program with Words Their Way for many years now with great success.
The LEM single phonogramps PowerPoint (PPT, 15.6MB) can assist you and your child in understanding the sounds of the single phonograms/letters of the alphabet.
The multiple phonograms PowerPoint (PPT, 14MB) can assist with multiple phonograms (meaning more than one letter).
The successive 17 phonograms PowerPoint (PPT, 3.2MB) can help with the least common used phonograms in the English language.
