Our Explicit Improvment Agenda this year is Reading. We have regular opportunities for parents to obtain support materials, learn about and be engaged in reading with their child/ren.
Class Library
Every classroom has a class library with a variety of texts that are changed regularly to keep engagement in reading high in classrooms.
Reading Groups
All year levels have reading groups involving class teachers, cohort leaders and a teacher aide multiple times across the week targetted to the students learning goal.
Reading Intervention
Early targetted intervention is a large investments with every year level having teacher aides who implement 15min daily 1-on-1 intervention with students who are below benchmark in reading. Teachers plan for these students to complement their classroom work and reading groups.
Home Readers
Every student from Prep to Year 3 receives home readers
Prep - Term 1 – Magic 100-300 sight words only
Term 2 onwards – Readers sent home
Yr 1-3 receive 2 x home readers each week changed weekly during library time - New reading log inserted each term
Yr 4-6 library borrowing weekly – send home student learning goal bookmark
Home Reading Awards
Home reading log signed daily by parents and submitted weekly to teachers
Certificates are presented on assembly
Testing
Testing is conducted a minimum once per term by teachers to ensure learning goals are accurate and up to date to ensure continual learning occurs.
