Resource centre

Cranbrook State School has a modern well-equipped resource centre that caters for all school community members and offers a wide range of non-fiction and fiction books. The school also has a range of audio-visual and computer resources.

Our aim is to establish cooperative partnerships with school community members so that reading can be promoted and to provide a welcoming and stimulating environment. At our resource centre we offer suitable learning resources, information and experiences that foster the development of information and literacy skills as well as lifelong learning. There are various areas available for quiet reading and conversation, a small group area for shared reading, a computer cluster for individuals or small groups, teaching rooms and a large computer laboratory. All areas have appealing surroundings.

Generally the Resource Centre will be opened to students and parents before school from 8.30 am to 9.00 am, both lunch breaks, and then after school from 3.00pm to 3.15 pm. Parents are welcome to visit the resource centre before or after school to assist students with book selection or just to come and have a browse.

All students are encouraged to borrow books from the resource centre. On a weekly basis, each class has a 20 minute allocated borrowing time so that students can select and return books. It is requested that students in Prep, Year 1, Year 2 and Year 3 have a library bag when borrowing books as this helps protect our resources from wear, tear and loss. Students in Years 4 to 6 do not need a library bag but are responsible for returning the books in the same condition as they were borrowed. A waterproof PVC library bag with school logo is available for purchase from the school office.

Book fairs

Generally Cranbrook State School has two Scholastic Book fairs per year. Every book fair is well supported by the school community and each class is allocated a time where they visit the book fair to look at the wonderful variety of books and novelty items. From the total sales of each book fair, our school receives a commission in free books to add to Cranbrook’s resource centre collection. These resources are made available for our students and staff to read. Book fairs are always well received and enjoyed by the whole school community.
